What states are included?
The Pacific Northwest National Laboratory's location and well-established relationships within Washington State and the Seattle Urban Area Security Initiative have resulted in a concentration of early activities in Washington State. Collaborations and relationships have also been formed with Oregon, Idaho, and Alaska. The Northwest Regional Technology Center (NWRTC) will continue to expand its activities with these states and extend them to Montana and Hawaii.
How is the private sector involved in NWRTC activities?
The private sector is engaged in two ways:
- A potential technology user can call with issues, questions, or needs.
Since much of the technology will need to go through a commercial provider, the center supports technology transfer, for the commercial market to pick up a needed technology and move it forward.
- If a private developer of a technology wants to demonstrate their technology and fund the demonstration, the NWRTC will coordinate and conduct it. The NWRTC will provide a structured protocol for the evaluation and provide the report if the developer is agreeable to results being published in open literature.
The Pacific Northwest National Laboratory is committed to ensure fair and transparent technology evaluations in partnership with the user community.
How does the NWRTC link to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) or other agencies associated with homeland security and defense?
The NWRTC is directly linked to DHS, working with the science and technology community and developers through the DHS Office of Science and Technology.
How does NWRTC link to states and local agencies?
The center will continue to reach out in a collaborative fashion with state and local agencies to create and foster the collaborative spirit.
